Today has to be the longest day I’ve had in the last 2 years of being a mum. I have been awake since around 1am this morning and it is now 8.35pm. With no naps. The reason for this….Logan has been blowing chunks/chundering/throwing up/vomiting take your pick of which word you would like to use, for me I feel blowing chunks is probably how I would sum up today.
So I’ll start at the beginning shall I? As usual Logan woke around 1-2am, I was already awake as I was struggling to get comfy (I’m a light sleeper) Logan wakes crying, so I bring him into our bed as he’s been teething a lot lately and the last couple of days he really hasn’t been himself, Saturday evening he woke around 8:30pm dripping in sweat and while he does sweat in his sleep this was more so than normal.
So anyway he comes into our bed and he’s struggling to settle also, I figured he will be hot and bothered like me. I get him a drink but there is no satisfying him or consoling him. He really didn’t know what to do with himself. So I take back into his room change his nappy just to make sure that’s not bothering and he gets into his bed which is now nice and cool, again he doesn’t want to settle so I read him a story. This works for like half an hour then he wakes crying again. This time we just try to keep putting him back to bed in the end I just sat on his bed with him.
In the process of trying to get him to lay down he starts working himself up, a lot, I eventually get him to calm down and no sooner does he calm down he throw’s up the contents of his tummy. This is the first time he has ever been sick like that. Before it was just spit up that babies do when they feed. By this point it was 5 am so we decided that as I had to wash the bedding and myself and Matt where wide awake we’d take Logan down stairs and have snuggles.
To start with we thought he’d been sick because of working himself up so much but soon after he fell asleep he woke up and was sick again. This happened a couple of time throughout the morning. However while Matt was out to go pick Lexi up from her mum’s Logan had perked up and was wanting to eat crackers and drink water. After he had another short nap and not wanting to eat again we decided we’d go to our Local tesco to get stuff for his party on Sunday. He had been fine, up until we got home, went to the loo and when I came down I found Logan had been sick again except this time he exploded sick all over Matt, front and back, all over the hallway carpet, the CLEAN clothes on the radiator, the wall and then eventually in the sick tub in the living room while also getting the living room carpet. It was not pretty and it definitely didn’t smell good.
Once again he was perfectly fine and ended up having like a 3 hour nap while I cooked our Sunday dinner and then while we ate it. When he eventually woke up he want nothing but cuddles from his mummy, which I was happy to oblige until that is, when I needed the loo. I couldn’t have been on the loo for more than 15 seconds when Lexi shouted saying that “daddy said don’t be long Logan has been sick again”. Well I came down stairs and cried with laughter not at Logan but at the fact that once again Matt was covered in sick. It was so bad that both had to be rinsed down in the shower.
Since then Logan hasn’t been sick, and to be honest I really do hope that is it because A) I hate seeing Logan poorly and so upset B) I really need some sleep tonight. I don’t know where he has pick this bug up from I just hope it is one of those 24 hour bugs and nothing worse as I really don’t want our household to be sick too.
I apologise for the really long post. But I wanted to share my day with you, and show that my life isn’t always great and happy and to be honest….I really don’t have a clue of how to deal with sickness like this, I never had to before, yes Lexi has been sick since I’ve been in her life but she has been old enough to understand and to tell us she will be sick. When it’s out of the blue I’m like “arrghh what do I do?”
How do you handle your child’s sickness? are you calm and collective or do you go into a state of Panic?
